The stage is set one year before Ren arrives in Kaminohara. Akira has moved to Kaminohara from Sendai, all for the sake of revenge. The wounds that his sister suffered in an MS battle fuel his vengeance.
A lost Haruma is given directions by Akira, revealing a caring side to the usually cold and calculating teen. Haruma observes Akira's violent MS battles, and realizes that Akira fights while reading his enemies' attacks.
Haruma proposes the idea of recruiting Akira to his teammates, Aoi and Minami. Surprised and naturally reluctant, Aoi and Minami decide to trust Haruma. For Haruma has resisted recruiting the fourth member of their team, saving the spot for the right person...

Where it came from
Released in 2016, Monster Strike: Winter Special - Rain of Memories serves as a narrative expansion to the larger Monster Strike media franchise. This original net animation was produced by studio CONNECT to capitalize on the immense popularity of the mobile game, aiming to deepen the backstories of the game's core characters through a festive, winter-themed standalone episode that blends character development with the series' signature fast-paced action sequences.
The production sought to shift away from the purely mechanical combat of the app by focusing on a more poignant, character-driven script. Designed to bridge the gap between game updates and anime episodes, the project was received by the fanbase as a modest but effective character study, appreciated for its departure from the typical high-stakes plotlines of the main series in favor of a more localized and atmospheric seasonal tone.
