Junior high school student Ren Homura and his friends are a team in Monster Strike. They combine the forces of different monsters and go to battle against their foes, but for some reason, none of them can remember a certain time in their past.
One day, a monster appears from beyond space and time and sends one of them back. Ren and the others start to regain their memory as this incident unfolds. They remember a time when Monster Strike was a highly-kept secret, a time when only they, as children, were allowed to play it.
The hidden truth of Monster Strike comes to light. And with it, the lost memories of a childhood adventure.

Where it came from
Monster Strike The Movie was released in 2016 as a feature-length expansion of the highly popular mobile game franchise developed by Mixi. Produced by studio LIDENFILMS and directed by Shinpei Ezaki, the film was designed to provide a cohesive cinematic origin story for the game's central characters, specifically focusing on the protagonist Ren Homura. The production aimed to bridge the gap between the game's fast-paced puzzle-based mechanics and a structured narrative, utilizing high-quality digital animation to render the game's distinct monster designs for the big screen.
The film was received as a milestone for the franchise, successfully transitioning from a series of web-based shorts to a theatrical experience that resonated with the existing player base. By blending themes of friendship and nostalgic adventure, the creative team sought to deepen the emotional connection players felt toward their in-game companions. Its release marked a turning point in the branding of Monster Strike, cementing its status as a multimedia property beyond its mobile roots.
