There once existed a planet named Beal, until it was wiped out by the mysterious entity known as Gaizok. The few remaining survivors escaped to Earth and split into three families, named Jin, Kamie, and Kamikita respectively. While attempting to start a new life, the collectively known "Jin Family" prepared for the inevitable Gaizok invasion on Earth and its giant mechanical beasts known as "Mecha Boosts". In order to defend their new home, they have built three vehicles which when combined form the mighty Zambot 3. The Jin Family must not only defend against Gaizok attacks, but also harsh criticisms from the very people they protect, who blame the Jin Family for the invasion in the first place.

Where it came from
Muteki Choujin Zambot 3 was produced by Sunrise and first aired in 1977, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of the mecha anime genre. Directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the series served as a foundational work for the 'real robot' subgenre, moving away from the simplistic hero-versus-monster tropes of earlier super robot shows to explore darker themes of war, loss, and the psychological burden placed upon child pilots.
The character and mecha designs were handled by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, who sought to imbue the series with a grounded, humanistic aesthetic despite its fantastical premise. The show was received with mixed reactions at the time, as its heavy narrative tone and tragic plot points challenged the expectations of younger audiences accustomed to lighter fare, ultimately securing its legacy as a bold, sophisticated departure in animated storytelling.
