My Friend Bernard

My Friend Bernard is a 2007 animated feature film produced by the South Korean studio RG Animation Studios. It was created as part of the broader Bernard Bear franchise, which originated as a series of short, dialogue-free segments featuring a bumbling, grumpy polar bear. The feature-length format was designed to expand upon the episodic nature of the shorts, providing a more cohesive narrative while retaining the physical comedy and slapstick elements that defined the original character.

The film was directed by Aaron Lim, who aimed to translate the brief, gag-driven interactions of the shorts into a linear adventure aimed at younger audiences. The production focused on accessible, computer-generated imagery that emphasized character expressions over complex environments. Upon its release, the film was largely received as a direct-to-video effort, finding its primary audience through international distribution and its inclusion in various animation compilations for children.
