Where it came from
My Hero Academia: You’re Next is the fourth feature film in the My Hero Academia franchise, produced by the animation studio Bones and released in 2024. As an original story set within the established timeline of the manga, it was designed to bridge the narrative gap between the series' sixth and seventh seasons, focusing on the escalating threat posed by a mysterious figure who mimics the likeness and power of the retired hero All Might.
Directed by Tensai Okamura, the film leans into the high-octane aesthetic established by Bones throughout the series' television run. The production team aimed to elevate the visual scale of the anime for a cinematic format, utilizing elaborate sakuga sequences to contrast the film's new antagonist with the legacy of the series' core protagonist, Izuku Midoriya. Upon its theatrical release, it was received as a continuation of the studio's technical dedication to the superhero genre.
