My secret school days

My Secret School Days emerged from the creative laboratories of Geidai Animation, the specialized program at Tokyo University of the Arts known for fostering distinctive, auteur-driven short films. Produced within a highly academic and experimental framework, the film reflects the institution's commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional animation techniques. It serves as a representative example of the studio's output, where emerging animators are encouraged to explore personal, often introspective narratives that deviate from the mainstream aesthetics of the commercial anime industry.

The film's visual language is characterized by an intimate, idiosyncratic style that prioritizes atmospheric storytelling over conventional pacing. By blending nostalgic themes with a nuanced artistic approach, the project captured the specific ethos of its creators, who sought to translate the ephemeral quality of school-day memories into a cohesive cinematic experience. Upon its release, it gained recognition within festival circuits and academic circles for its technical craftsmanship and its ability to evoke a quiet, reflective mood that resonates with the specific tradition of Japanese independent animation.
