In Naked Youth Shishido takes us on a journey through the uncertainty and excitement of young love and homoerotic love. These gentle films quiver with sexual tension, which is linked to the natural world: trees reflecting on the surface of a pond, butterflies fluttering in the breeze.

Where it came from
Nakedyouth, produced by Kojiro Shishido Animation Works, emerged from the independent Japanese animation scene of the late 20th century. This experimental work reflects the studio's broader commitment to pushing the boundaries of traditional cel animation, often favoring abstract narrative structures and stark, evocative character designs over conventional storytelling methods.
The film is emblematic of the auteur-driven style championed by Shishido during this period. By stripping away standard dialogue and focusing on minimalist visual motifs, the creators aimed to evoke a raw, introspective atmosphere. While it remains a niche entry in the landscape of experimental animation, it is frequently cited by enthusiasts of avant-garde cinema for its disciplined visual cohesion and technical restraint.
