Nakoruru: Ano Hito kara no Okurimono

Nakoruru: Ano Hito kara no Okurimono, or Nakoruru: A Gift from That Person, was released in 2002 as a two-episode original video animation. Produced by Studio ARMS and based on the SNK Playmore fighting game franchise Samurai Shodown, the project was intended to offer a softer, more character-driven look at the series' iconic Ainu priestess. Set in an alternate timeline, the OVA departs from the intense martial arts themes of the source material to focus on environmentalist allegories and the personal narrative of Nakoruru in her home village of Kamui Kotan.

The production sought to distance itself from the high-octane action typically associated with the game franchise, opting instead for a pastoral, melancholic tone that emphasizes Nakoruru's connection to nature. While visually distinct from previous game adaptations, the series was received primarily as a niche curiosity for dedicated fans of the character. Its subdued pace and departure from the source material's combat roots have left it as a specialized title within the broader Samurai Shodown media library, representing a unique creative experiment in translating a fighting game avatar into a meditative storytelling format.
