Where it came from
Nameko: Sekai no Tomodachi was produced by Studio DEEN in 2016 as an animated television series based on the popular Mushroom Garden mobile game franchise. The series was designed to transition the minimalist, silent aesthetic of the smartphone game into a global educational narrative, focusing on the character Funghi as he interacts with different international cultures and environments.
The animation utilizes a distinctive, whimsical visual style that stays true to the iconic character designs created by Beeworks. Intended for a younger audience, the production aimed to introduce viewers to world geography and customs through the charming perspective of the fungi characters. It was received as a lighthearted expansion of the franchise, successfully translating the mobile gaming brand into a character-driven media property.
