Nanami-chan 5

Nanami-chan is a series of stop-motion animated shorts produced by the Tokyo-based studio Robot Communications. Premiering in 2004 and continuing with the fifth season in 2008, the series was designed to serve as the official mascot for the NHK BS digital broadcasting service. The whimsical character, a young girl with an oversized head and distinctively simple aesthetic, was created to appeal to a broad family audience through its tactile, handcrafted animation style.

The 2008 season, often referred to as Nanami-chan 5, continued the studio's tradition of utilizing intricate claymation techniques to depict lighthearted, everyday vignettes. Under the direction of the creative teams at Robot, the series received praise for its charming visual language and its ability to maintain high production values despite the brief, episodic format. It stands as a notable example of Japanese broadcast branding that successfully transitioned from a technical showcase to a beloved cultural icon.
