Where it came from
Neko no Nyahho - Nya Miserables is a 2019 television series produced by TMS Entertainment. It serves as a creative adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic literary work, Les Misérables, reimagined with an anthropomorphic cat cast. The production emerged from the broader Neko no Nyahho franchise, which seeks to introduce famous historical figures and cultural narratives to a younger audience through whimsical, feline-themed storytelling.
The series design prioritizes a minimalist and playful aesthetic intended to make complex literary themes accessible to children. By casting the iconic characters of the original novel as cats, the creative team at TMS Entertainment aimed to soften the heavy subject matter of 19th-century French social strife while maintaining the core emotional arc of the narrative. It is widely considered a niche experimental project within the studio's extensive portfolio of animated works.
