Where it came from
Neon The Animation was released in 2011 as a promotional project designed to showcase the capabilities of Japanese animation studio Studio 4°C. The short was commissioned as a visual accompaniment for the 'Neon' album by the musician Yasuyuki Okamura, intended to bridge the gap between experimental music production and contemporary high-end digital art.
The animation features a distinct, fluid style that emphasizes kinetic energy and abstract geometric motifs, a hallmark of the studio's avant-garde approach to commercial work. By blending rapid-fire editing with bold color palettes, the project sought to create an immersive, rhythmic experience that mirrored the structure of the accompanying track, ultimately receiving acclaim from animation enthusiasts for its technical polish and ambitious aesthetic direction.
