New Getter Robo

New Getter Robo was released in 2004 as a thirteen-episode original video animation series produced by Brain's Base. It serves as a modern reimagining of the classic Getter Robo franchise created by Go Nagai and Ken Ishikawa, specifically drawing heavy inspiration from the original manga's darker, more visceral tone. The production sought to strip away the episodic nature of earlier iterations, focusing instead on a condensed, high-stakes narrative that emphasized the series' core themes of evolution, sacrifice, and the destructive nature of the Getter Rays.

The character and mecha designs were handled by Takuya Saito, who worked to balance the series' legacy with a sharpened, contemporary aesthetic. The design philosophy prioritized aggressive, angular silhouettes for the titular robots, reflecting the violent and frantic combat style central to the story. Upon its release, the series was well-received by fans of the Getter Robo lineage for successfully capturing the raw intensity of the source material while utilizing high-quality animation that distinguished it from the more family-oriented television adaptations of previous decades.
