Nijuusou: Wana ni Ochita Onnatachi

Nijuusou: Wana ni Ochita Onnatachi was released in 2002 by Happinet Pictures as an original video animation, or OVA, during a period when the Japanese home video market was heavily focused on niche erotic and psychological thrillers. These productions were typically commissioned for direct-to-video distribution, allowing creators to explore mature themes and complex narrative structures outside the restrictive broadcasting standards of television anime at the time.

The production sought to capitalize on the popularity of dark, suspense-driven storytelling within the seinen demographic. As a relatively low-budget release from an era characterized by experimental adult-oriented animation, the project prioritized atmospheric tension over expansive world-building. While it remains a recognized artifact of early 2000s direct-to-video anime, it was received primarily as a modest entry within the broader landscape of the era's specialized, independently distributed animation market.
