Nintama Rantarou Movie: Ninjutsu Gakuen Zenin Shutsudou! no Dan

Released in 2011, Ninjutsu Gakuen Zenin Shutsudou! no Dan marked the second feature-length theatrical outing for the long-running Nintama Rantarou anime franchise. Produced by studio Ajiado, the film was designed to commemorate the series' enduring cultural footprint by bringing together the entire cast of students, teachers, and recurring characters from the Ninja Academy in a single, high-stakes rescue mission. The production aimed to maintain the playful, slapstick charm of the original gag manga by Soubee Amako while expanding the scope to accommodate a cinematic narrative structure.

The film was directed by Masaya Fujimori, who worked to balance the frantic energy of the series' typical episodic format with the more cohesive pacing required for a feature film. Artistically, the production team stayed faithful to the simplified, bold character designs established in the long-running television series, ensuring the transition to the big screen felt authentic to longtime fans. Upon its Japanese release, the movie was received as a heartfelt celebration of the franchise’s legacy, successfully bridging the gap between its younger demographic and the adult viewers who had grown up watching the series since its 1993 debut.
