Nitian Xie Shen 2

Nitian Xie Shen 2, also known as Against the Gods Part 2, is a Chinese web animation series that emerged from the popular xianxia fantasy genre. Following the success of its predecessor, the production team continued the adaptation of the original web novel by Mars Gravity, focusing on the protagonist Yun Che as he navigates a world of cultivation, martial arts, and complex geopolitical conflicts. This installment represents a significant shift in Chinese animation production trends during the late 2010s, as studios increasingly leveraged 3D computer-generated imagery to capture the expansive, supernatural combat sequences central to the source material.

The visual design of the series was orchestrated to emphasize high-octane action, employing a vibrant, stylized aesthetic that aligns with contemporary domestic trends for web-distributed content. The animation was produced to cater specifically to fans of serialized streaming, emphasizing cliffhangers and character-driven progression. While it has faced critiques from purists regarding the adaptation speed and fidelity to the written text, the series maintains a steady following for its commitment to the tropes of the cultivation subgenre and its role in the growth of the ONA format in the Chinese streaming market.
