Nitian Xie Shen: Nian Fan

Nitian Xie Shen, known in English as Against the Gods, originated as a popular web novel by Mars Gravity before being adapted into a 3D animated ONA series. The project was brought to the screen by Foch Studio, a production house known for its work in the Chinese animation industry's push toward high-fidelity CGI. The series premiered as a 'Nian Fan' (year-long broadcast) production, a common format in the Chinese industry designed to maintain consistent audience engagement over a long-term release schedule.

The character design and visual direction for the adaptation were tailored to capture the high-fantasy aesthetic typical of the xianxia genre, emphasizing intricate costume details and stylized magical effects. Foch Studio focused on creating a sleek, contemporary look for the protagonist, Yun Che, to distinguish the series within the competitive landscape of domestic Chinese animation. Upon release, the show received attention for its ambitious production scale, though its reception was largely defined by its fidelity to the fast-paced narrative beats established in the original source material.
