Where it came from
Nui Nui Hinobori San Kyoudai was produced in 2017 by DLE, the Tokyo-based animation studio best known for its experimental approach to flash animation and satirical short-form content. Released as an ONA, the series was designed to highlight the studio's signature minimalist aesthetic, utilizing simple character designs and quirky, rapid-fire humor that caters to the fast-paced nature of digital-first viewership.
The series focuses on the antics of the three Hinobori siblings, capturing the essence of DLE’s tendency to create unconventional, low-fidelity comedy that defies traditional anime production standards. While it remains a niche entry in the studio's extensive catalog, it reflects a specific period in mid-2010s Japanese web animation where studios were actively exploring the potential of short-form, episodic storytelling to build engagement through social media platforms.
