Where it came from
Nudl Nude is a two-episode original video animation (OVA) series released in the mid-1990s during the height of the direct-to-video anime boom in Japan. Produced by the studio Knack, the series functions as a surreal, experimental comedy that blends adult-oriented themes with highly stylized, distorted character designs that depart from the more conventional aesthetic standards prevalent in the era's animation market.
The series is noted for its idiosyncratic visual direction and absurdist narrative structure, which aimed to subvert the tropes of the adult animation genre through non-sequiturs and a frantic, offbeat tone. While it gained a reputation among Western cult collectors as a quintessential example of mid-90s 'bizarre' anime, it was received primarily as a niche curiosity due to its polarizing artistic choices and lack of traditional storytelling coherence.
