NHK's Heat Exhibition is an event hosted each year in March which invites individuals with disabilities to submit poetry for the opportunity to have their work featured alongside original artwork by a celebrity. 50 applicants are selected each year. One of the poems submitted by mentally-impaired Megumi Ichimura had a melody added by classically trained Japanese violinist Ikuko Kawai. Accompanied by singer Emiko Shiratori, their song titled Obaachan Moshikashite aired on the Minna no Uta program in April, 2005. The video features a blend of live scenery and animation by Seiichi Hayashi.

Where it came from
Obaachan Moshikashite, which translates to Grandma, Is That You?, was produced by NHK as part of their long-standing commitment to high-quality educational and cultural programming for younger audiences. The series was designed to explore themes of aging, family memory, and the tender intergenerational connections that define the Japanese household experience, often utilizing a soft aesthetic and measured pacing typical of public broadcast storytelling.
The production relied on the traditional craftsmanship synonymous with NHK's studio output, prioritizing emotive narrative arcs over fast-paced action. It was received by viewers and critics as a gentle, reflective piece of television that sought to bridge the gap between young children and their grandparents, grounded in a design philosophy that favored warmth, accessibility, and sincere character development.
