Oblivion Battery

Oblivion Battery, or Boukyaku Battery, originated as a popular sports manga series by Eko Mikawa before receiving a television anime adaptation produced by Studio MAPPA in 2024. The series centers on the subversion of high school baseball tropes, focusing on a once-prodigious pitcher who suffers from amnesia, forcing him to rediscover his passion for the sport alongside his former rival. By transitioning the narrative to a medium known for high-octane production values, the adaptation sought to balance the series' signature comedic absurdity with the technical intensity of baseball matches.

MAPPA approached the project with a distinct visual style intended to capture both the rapid pace of the games and the idiosyncratic character interactions that define the source material. The production team focused on maintaining the emotional core of the characters' relationships, grounding the surreal premise of the amnesiac battery in a relatable coming-of-age context.
