Where it came from
The Odekake Kozame Kurashiki-shi collaboration movie was released in 2025 as a specialized promotional short featuring the popular character Kozame-chan. Produced by studio ENGI, the project was commissioned as part of a regional tourism initiative to highlight the cultural landmarks and scenic beauty of Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture. The short leverages the character’s hallmark gentle aesthetic to bridge the gap between contemporary animation fans and local heritage sites.
The animation reflects the series' signature soft-edged design and contemplative pacing, focusing on Kozame-chan’s interactions with the historical architecture of the Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter. By maintaining the collaborative aesthetic established by original creator Penguin Box, the project received positive notice from the fanbase for its seamless integration of regional identity within the established Odekake Kozame narrative framework, serving as both a travelogue and a character piece.
