A little boy doesn't understand why all the women crowd around and pay attention to a baby. It's loud, cries, and doesn't do any tricks. Until he himself is called Oniichan does he realize that a baby is nice to have around to be given such a grand title of importance.

Where it came from
Onii-chan ni Natchatta is a short-form animated production associated with NHK, the Japanese national broadcaster, specifically originating from the long-running program Minna no Uta. This series is famous for commissioning unique, experimental, and heartwarming animation segments that have been a staple of Japanese television since 1961. The piece was created to offer a whimsical look at childhood dynamics, fitting the program's mandate to provide artistic, family-friendly content that often features distinct visual styles.
The animation reflects the aesthetic sensibilities common to NHK's diverse collaborative projects, which frequently partner with independent animators and illustrators to explore narrative themes through brevity. While the work functions within the structured framework of public broadcasting, it was intended as a standalone vignette meant to resonate emotionally with viewers. It was received as a gentle addition to the Minna no Uta catalog, valued for its understated charm and the technical consistency expected of NHK's creative output.
