Where it came from
Released in 2022 to coincide with the modern television revival of Rumiko Takahashi’s classic manga, this short promotional film was produced by David Production. The collaboration served as a stylized intersection between high-fashion footwear brand Onitsuka Tiger and the vibrant aesthetic of the Urusei Yatsura franchise, utilizing the show’s distinct character designs and high-energy tone to highlight the brand's iconic Mexico 66 sneakers.
The animation features Lum and Ataru navigating a futuristic, stylized version of Tokyo, rendered with the digital precision typical of David Production’s contemporary work. By integrating the characters into a visual narrative centered on the aesthetic appeal of the footwear, the project functioned as a sophisticated advertisement that leveraged nostalgia for the 1980s original series while showcasing the sleek, minimalist design language that has defined Onitsuka Tiger's creative output for decades.
