Onmyoji: Heian Monogatari 2

Onmyoji: Heian Monogatari 2 was released in 2019 as a direct sequel to the 2018 original web animation series. Produced by studio BLADE, this ONA was crafted to expand the lore of the popular mobile role-playing game developed by NetEase. The series serves as a lighthearted, slice-of-life exploration of the game's protagonists, moving away from the high-stakes tactical combat of the source material to focus on the interpersonal relationships and daily rituals of the Heian-era characters.

The animation style was designed to mirror the refined, traditional aesthetic of the Heian period while incorporating the distinct character designs established in the original game. By blending artistic motifs of classic Japanese art with modern character animation techniques, the studio aimed to satisfy the existing fanbase's desire for a more intimate look at the shikigami. Upon release, it was received as a nostalgic and humorous companion piece that successfully deepened the emotional connection players felt toward the game's extensive roster.
