Onmyoji: Heian Monogatari 3

Onmyoji: Heian Monogatari 3 was released in 2022 as a continuation of the popular spin-off series based on the NetEase mobile game Onmyoji. Produced by Studio Massket, the series was designed to expand upon the lore of the Heian period setting, focusing on the character-driven narratives that fans of the game had grown to appreciate. The project serves as an extension of the franchise's transmedia strategy, blending traditional Japanese mythology with modern animation aesthetics.

The animation direction for the series reflects Studio Massket's goal of maintaining the polished, ethereal visual style established in the earlier Heian Monogatari installments. By focusing on shorter, atmospheric episodes, the production aimed to provide deeper emotional context for the game's protagonists. Upon its debut, the series was well-received by the established player base, who valued the consistent character designs and the evocative world-building that bridged the gap between the game's static imagery and fluid animation.
