Where it came from
Onna no Sono no Hoshi, or 'Hoshi to the Girls' Garden,' originated as a manga series by Yama Wayama, known for her unique brand of deadpan, observational humor. The 2022 OVA adaptation was produced by Studio Lapin Track and directed by Shinichi Omata, known for his work on 'Kaguya-sama: Love is War.' The series captures the mundane yet surreal daily life at an all-girls high school, focusing on the interactions between a teacher, Hoshi-sensei, and his eccentric students.
The production sought to preserve the distinct, sparse aesthetic of Wayama’s original artwork, prioritizing atmospheric storytelling and dry wit over high-octane animation. Upon its release, the OVA was well-received by fans of the source material and critics alike for its faithful translation of the manga’s specific, understated tone, successfully capturing the quiet humor that defines Wayama's work.
