Ore wa Teppei

Ore wa Teppei was produced by Nippon Animation and originally aired in 1977, serving as an adaptation of the popular manga series by Tetsuya Chiba. The story follows Teppei Uesugi, a wild, free-spirited boy raised in the mountains, who is thrust into a strict, structured urban environment after reuniting with his wealthy father. The series captures the clash between Teppei's rugged, nature-derived individualism and the rigid expectations of high-society schooling.

The series is noted for its distinctive visual style that mirrors Chiba’s energetic manga art, emphasizing dynamic movement and the protagonist’s mischievous, unkempt appearance. It emerged during a prolific era for Nippon Animation, which was well-regarded for its ability to translate complex character-driven narratives into long-form television. The show was received as a humorous yet poignant look at class differences and the process of maturation, remaining a recognizable entry in 1970s sports and slice-of-life anime.
