Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru: Mittsu no Kiraboshi - The Animation (2022)

Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru: Mittsu no Kiraboshi is a three-part OVA series released in 2022 that serves as an adaptation of the visual novel of the same name. Produced by studio Show-Ten, the project was created to commemorate the long-running franchise's twentieth anniversary, revisiting the cross-dressing romance tropes that defined the series since its original debut in 2005. The narrative follows a new protagonist, Miyako, as she enrolls in an all-girls academy, continuing the tradition of the 'Oboku' series’ exploration of gender identity and social dynamics within an elite academic setting.

The production sought to modernize the aesthetic established by the earlier anime adaptations while maintaining the core visual language characteristic of the light novel series. By utilizing a contemporary animation style, the studio aimed to bridge the gap between long-time fans who grew up with the 2006 television series and a new generation of viewers. Upon its release, the OVA was received as a nostalgic return to form, praised by the established fanbase for its faithfulness to the franchise's tone and character-driven focus.
