Where it came from
Our House, or Notre maison, was produced by the Geidai Animation program at Tokyo University of the Arts. This initiative is known for fostering experimental short-form animation by providing students with the resources to translate their artistic visions into professional-grade film. The project emerged from this academic environment, serving as a platform for emerging creators to explore domestic themes and character-driven storytelling within the distinct aesthetic framework supported by the studio's mentorship.
The film is defined by an understated, minimalist design language that prioritizes emotive nuance over complex visual spectacle. The artistic direction centers on the concept of 'home' as both a physical space and a psychological construct, employing a restrained color palette and fluid line work to convey intimacy. Upon its release within the festival circuit and university showcases, it was recognized for its sincerity and the evocative, subtle craft demonstrated by its animators, reflecting the high standards of the Geidai production collective.
