Saika Kuozaki is an all-powerful witch with looks to die for. She's also the only woman who can thwart the mysterious entities attempting to destroy the world once every 300 hours. When Saika is mortally wounded, however, she bequeaths both her powers and body to the normal high school boy who happens upon her, Mushiki Kuga. But just because Mushiki has her abilities doesn't mean he can control them. To stand a chance of saving the world, he'll have to attend an academy for mages as Saika—all while keeping his identity under wraps!

Where it came from
Ousama no Propose, or King's Proposal, is a light novel series authored by Koushi Tachibana, the creator of the popular Date A Live franchise. Debuting in 2022 under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint, the series was conceived as a high-stakes fantasy epic revolving around the concept of a 'world-ending' protagonist who must navigate a complex power structure to save a girl he loves. It represents a stylistic evolution for Tachibana, blending his signature energetic character dynamics with a more solemn, mythic narrative arc.
The series features distinctive illustrations by Tsunako, a frequent collaborator of Tachibana's known for her intricate and visually striking character designs. Tsunako's aesthetic for this series leans into a sharp, ornate style that emphasizes the contrast between the lead character’s overwhelming power and the fragility of the world around him. Upon its release, the series was received as a significant project for the publisher, supported by a strong promotional push that leaned on the established rapport between the author and illustrator to attract their existing fan base.
