Where it came from
This pendant was released in 1997 as part of the official merchandise line accompanying the release of the 'Neon Genesis Evangelion: Death & Rebirth' theatrical films. It was designed to serve as a high-end collector's accessory, reflecting the minimalist and symbolic aesthetic that defined the series' branding during its cultural peak in mid-nineties Japan.
The piece draws direct inspiration from the iconography of the Nerv organization, typically featuring the stylized 'half-leaf' logo or the recurring cross motifs central to the anime's visual language. Created by Gainax’s internal merchandising teams in collaboration with specialty jewelry manufacturers, the pendant was intended for adult fans who desired a subtle, wearable connection to the franchise that avoided the overtly gaudy design trends common in anime merchandise of that era.
