Where it came from
Pico × CoCo × Chico was released in 2008 as an original video animation produced by the studio Natural High. The project emerged from the broader Boku no Pico series, which gained a peculiar and lasting notoriety within internet subcultures. The series was produced as an erotic animation, specifically targeting niche demographics within the Japanese otaku community, and it is frequently discussed more for its unconventional legacy than its narrative or aesthetic contributions.
The production relied on a distinct, simplified visual style typical of low-budget adult animation from that era. Because the series was created as a direct-to-video project, it was never intended for mainstream distribution or critical review. Instead, it gained an ironic following on image boards and social media platforms, where its reputation transformed into a long-standing meme, influencing how the title is remembered in historical discussions regarding internet-era cult animation.
