Where it came from
The planetarian: Snow Globe was released in 2021 as a tie-in to the animated adaptations of the acclaimed kinetic novel by Key. Produced by studio Okuruto Noboru, the item serves as a commemorative piece celebrating the atmospheric and melancholic themes of the series, which depicts a post-apocalyptic world where a solitary robot caretaker maintains a long-forgotten planetarium. The snow globe captures the series' central imagery of falling snow and starlit skies, grounding the digital narrative in a physical object meant to evoke the sense of longing and wonder central to the source material.
The design of the snow globe was curated to reflect the visual aesthetics established by the studio's adaptation work. By utilizing the iconic iconography of the protagonist Yumemi Hoshino and the crumbling, snow-covered cityscape of the story, the designers aimed to provide fans with a tangible memento of the narrative's emotional peak. The piece was well-received within the visual novel community for its faithful translation of the franchise's somber, beautiful color palette into a desktop display format, solidifying its status as a sought-after collectible for followers of the planetarian project.
