Where it came from
Planetarium Uchuu Kyoudai: Itten no Hikari was produced in 2012 by A-1 Pictures as a specialized dome-projection short film. Created to coincide with the television anime adaptation of Chuuya Koyama's popular manga series Space Brothers, the project was designed for planetarium settings to provide an immersive, educational experience that mirrors the series' authentic approach to space exploration and astronaut training.
The film centers on the protagonists, Hibito and Mutta Nanba, as they recount the astronomical significance of various stars and constellations. By leveraging the technical capabilities of planetarium projection systems, the studio aimed to bridge the gap between popular entertainment and astronomical science. It was received as a respectful, contemplative companion piece to the main series, valued by fans for its focus on the wonder of the night sky rather than the high-stakes drama of the primary narrative.
