Pokémon: Hoopa's Surprise Ring Adventures

Released in 2015, Hoopa's Surprise Ring Adventures is a series of six short animations produced by OLM, Inc. to coincide with the release of the feature film Pokémon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages. These shorts were designed as a marketing tool to highlight the mischievous nature of the titular Pokémon, Hoopa, and its ability to conjure objects and other legendary Pokémon through its magic rings. The shorts were initially made available via the official Pokémon YouTube channel and at select cinema screenings in Japan, acting as an interactive bridge between the audience and the mythos of the film.

The creative direction for these shorts focused on a comedic, slapstick style that contrasts with the more dramatic stakes of the feature-length film. By utilizing a vignette format, the animators focused on high-energy, episodic humor that showcased the variety of legendary Pokémon appearing in the cinematic release. The reception among fans was positive, particularly due to the lighthearted tone and the visual appeal of seeing diverse Pokémon interacting in chaotic, condensed scenarios.
