While most of the smaller Pokémon are taking a nap, Togepi suddenly wakes up and, after seeing a group of flying Pokémon, finds itself separated from the rest of the Pokémon. Noticing this, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Venonat, Marill, and Psyduck go in search of Togepi. It is there that they meet Elekid, who leads them to a group of Exeggcute. However, one such Exeggcute has a missing egg, and believes Togepi to be their missing part. Thus, the gang must travel to find the missing egg, and endure a storm that could blow Togepi and the Exeggcute away.

Where it came from
Pikachu's Rescue Adventure was produced by OLM, Inc. and released in Japanese theaters in 1999 as a theatrical short preceding the second feature-length Pokémon film, Pokémon: The Movie 2000. It marked a transition in the franchise's cinematic strategy, establishing the tradition of pairing a major feature film with a shorter, more lighthearted story focused on the mascot character, Pikachu, and his interactions with other Pokémon in the absence of their trainers.
The short was designed to showcase a more expressive, ensemble-driven narrative that highlighted the personalities of the franchise's growing roster of creatures. Directed by Kunihiko Yuyama, the animation aimed to capture a whimsical atmosphere distinct from the main film’s high-stakes narrative. Upon release, it was well-received by fans for its focus on physical comedy and creature interaction, serving as a key piece of the early Pokémon marketing push that helped solidify the brand's theatrical presence globally.
