Where it came from
The 2019 Porte was introduced as part of a contemporary design initiative focused on minimalist utility, reflecting a trend toward functional art objects that bridge the gap between architectural hardware and interior decor. Conceived during a period of heightened interest in brutalist-inspired aesthetics, the piece was developed to serve as a tactile, structural focal point within a domestic space, emphasizing raw materiality and clean lines over ornamental flourish.
The design process centered on the tension between weight and portability, with the creators prioritizing high-density materials to ensure a sense of permanence. Upon its release, the object was noted by design critics for its restrained silhouette, which prioritized geometric clarity. It was received as a deliberate departure from the more ornate decorative items of the preceding decade, finding favor among collectors who appreciate understated, industrial-influenced craftsmanship.
