The series revolves around a closed-down "Stride" club at Hounan Academy. First-year high school students Takeru Fujiwara and Nana Sakurai attempt to restart the club, but they must recruit six members for the team. They ask Riku Yagami to join, but he turns them down by saying that Stride is the one thing he doesn't want to do. However, Takeru and Nana drag Riku into the clubroom to try to convince him.

Where it came from
Prince of Stride: Alternative was produced by the renowned animation studio Madhouse and broadcast in early 2016. The series is based on a visual novel franchise created by Kadokawa, which centers on 'Stride,' a fictional extreme sport involving parkour-style relay racing. The anime adaptation was directed by Atsuko Ishizuka, who sought to capture the kinetic energy and high-stakes teamwork of the sport through fluid, dynamic character movement.
The series was designed to emphasize the aesthetic of urban athletics, contrasting the frantic, high-speed sequences of the races with the interpersonal dramas of the school club members. While the animation earned praise for its depiction of the sport, the narrative was often viewed as a standard sports anime entry, balancing competitive tension with themes of friendship and personal growth. It remains a notable example of the studio's mid-2010s output in the sports and youth-oriented genre.
