Princess Lover!: Magical Knight Maria-chan

Princess Lover!: Magical Knight Maria-chan was released in 2009 as a series of original video animation specials, serving as a spin-off to the adult visual novel and anime adaptation Princess Lover!. Produced by studio GoHands, the project was designed to capitalize on the popularity of the parent series by shifting the focus to a magical girl subgenre, blending the established character archetypes with more fantastical, lighthearted action elements.

The production sought to maintain the visual fidelity of the main series while adapting the character designs to suit the magical girl trope. It was received primarily by the existing fanbase as a supplementary curiosity, functioning as a departure from the harem narrative of the original show. By leaning into stylistic pastiches common to the genre during that era, the series remains a niche artifact of late 2000s studio experimentation.
