Where it came from
PriPri Chi-chan!! was produced by OLM, Inc. and first broadcast in 2017 as part of the long-running children's variety program Oha Suta. The series was designed to appeal to a younger demographic, centering on the whimsical interaction between a young girl named Yuka and a subterranean creature known as a Chi-chan. The show reflects OLM's broader expertise in character-driven animation, utilizing a simple, high-contrast aesthetic that translates effectively to the short-form, daily broadcast format required by its parent variety program.
The character designs were conceptualized to prioritize accessibility and charm, emphasizing rounded shapes and expressive features that defined the show's identity. Within the context of Japanese children's television, the series functioned as a lighthearted bridge between segments, aiming to foster a sense of curiosity and playfulness. It was received as a modest, niche entry in the landscape of late-2010s daytime animation, noted primarily for its role in maintaining the engagement of school-aged viewers during their morning routines.
