Where it came from
Pseudo Harem originated as a popular web manga series authored by Yu Saitou, which gained significant traction on Twitter before being serialized in Monthly Shonen Sunday. The narrative revolves around Rin Nanakura, a drama club member who uses her acting skills to roleplay various character archetypes for her upperclassman, Eiji Kitahama. This premise serves as a meta-commentary on classic harem anime tropes, reframing them as a deliberate performance between two individuals rather than a collection of disparate romantic interests.
The 2024 television anime adaptation was produced by Studio Nomad and directed by Toshihiro Kikuchi. In translating the series to the screen, the production sought to preserve the intimate, vignette-based storytelling of the source material. The series was generally well-received for its lighthearted tone and the chemistry between the two leads, with critics noting that the animation effectively captures the shifting, stylized personas Rin adopts to express her affection for Eiji.
