Psychic Force

Psychic Force was released in 1998 as a two-episode original video animation (OVA) adaptation of the 1995 arcade fighting game developed by Taito. The production was spearheaded by the studio Triangle Staff, which sought to translate the game's unique high-speed, 3D aerial combat mechanics into a linear narrative format. This project emerged during a period when Japanese game developers frequently commissioned animation studios to expand the lore and character backstories of their popular titles to capitalize on the success of the arcade scene.

The character designs were handled by the artistic team at Triangle Staff, who aimed to maintain the sharp, futuristic aesthetic established by the game's original character designer, Tatsuya Ryuo. The animation focuses on the psychic abilities of protagonists Keith Evans and Burn Griffiths, attempting to capture the sense of fluid movement found in the gameplay. While the OVA served as a supplement for existing fans of the Taito arcade series, it received a modest reception, viewed primarily as a stylized companion piece that emphasized the atmospheric world-building of the source material over a deep narrative structure.
