Where it came from
PUI PUI Molcar the Movie MOLMAX was released in 2024 as a cinematic expansion of the stop-motion animation franchise created by Tomoki Misato. Originally launched in 2021, the series gained international recognition for its unique premise of guinea pig-car hybrids, utilizing tactile felt puppets to create a charming, dialogue-free narrative style that resonated with both children and adult animation enthusiasts.
The film represents the franchise's transition to a theatrical format, overseen by Toho. The design philosophy maintains the signature 'mol' aesthetic—combining organic textures with mechanical automotive features—while scaling the production for the big screen. The work continues the series' tradition of blending gentle, absurd humor with meticulous stop-motion craftsmanship, receiving attention for its ability to maintain the distinct, handcrafted quality of the original shorts in a feature-length runtime.
