Puka Puka Juju is one of the four anime works that each received 38 million yen (about US$470,000) from the "2011 Young Animator Training Project." Just like in 2010, the animation labor group received 214.5 million yen (US$2.65 million) from the Japanese government's Agency for Cultural Affairs, and it distributed most of those funds to studios who train young animators on-the-job.

Where it came from
Puka Puka Juju was released in 2012 as a project produced by The Answer Studio, a Japanese animation house founded by former members of Walt Disney Animation Japan. The film was developed as a creative vehicle to showcase the studio's technical capabilities in digital animation, focusing on a whimsical narrative centered around the title character, a small, rabbit-like creature living in a vibrant, surreal forest environment.
The visual direction of the film emphasized a soft, textured aesthetic meant to evoke the feeling of a children's storybook brought to life. Designed with a distinct focus on fluid, rhythmic motion, the project was intended to demonstrate the studio's proficiency in character performance outside of their usual commercial service work. It was received primarily within the animation industry as a stylistic technical showcase rather than a wide-release narrative feature.
