Qin Mo Zhuan

Qin Mo Zhuan, known in English as The Legend of Qin, is a pioneering Chinese 3D animated wuxia series that began its run in 2007. Produced by Sparkly Key Animation, the series was conceived to bridge the gap between traditional Chinese historical epics and modern digital animation techniques. Set during the Qin Dynasty, it weaves historical events with fantasy elements, focusing on a young protagonist who matures amidst the political upheavals of the era.

The series design aesthetic is characterized by its distinct blend of cel-shaded 3D character models and painterly, atmospheric backgrounds inspired by classical Chinese ink wash paintings. Lead creators worked to establish a visual language that felt both futuristic and deeply rooted in the cultural iconography of the Warring States period. Upon its release, it was highly regarded for elevating the production standards of Chinese animation, becoming a seminal work that influenced the aesthetic direction of subsequent domestic CGI productions.
