Raccoon Dog & Fox

Raccoon Dog & Fox, produced by Akatsuki Media Studio and released in 2026, serves as a modern exploration of traditional Japanese folklore. The series was developed to bridge the gap between classic animation styles and contemporary digital storytelling, focusing on the dynamic between its two titular characters. The narrative draws heavily from the Tanuki and Kitsune legends, reimagining these mythical figures within a melancholic, atmospheric setting that prioritizes character-driven emotional arcs over traditional action tropes.

The visual direction for the series was handled by Akatsuki’s core creative team, who opted for a distinctive, hand-drawn aesthetic that emphasizes fluid movement and textured backgrounds. The design language utilizes a muted color palette to reinforce the series' themes of folklore and time, distinguishing it from the high-saturation trends prevalent in the mid-2020s. Upon its release, the series received critical attention for its restrained pacing and its successful attempt to ground legendary spirits in relatable human dilemmas.
