RahXephon Interlude: Her and Herself/Thatness and Thereness

RahXephon Interlude: Her and Herself/Thatness and Thereness was released in 2003 as a direct-to-video follow-up to the acclaimed television series produced by studio Bones. The project was designed to bridge narrative gaps in the original series, focusing specifically on the perspectives of key female characters to provide greater depth to their backstories and emotional arcs. It serves as an epilogue and companion piece, reinforcing the philosophical and avant-garde themes established by creator Yutaka Izubuchi.

The animation and narrative structure maintain the distinct aesthetic quality associated with Bones' output during the early 2000s, characterized by a blend of mecha action and psychological introspection. Yutaka Izubuchi, who directed and designed the original series, oversaw this production to ensure thematic consistency. Upon its release, the OVA was well-received by fans of the series, who appreciated the added context it provided for characters who had been sidelined by the primary plot of the television broadcast.
