Where it came from
Reborn as a Cat was produced by Paper Plane Animation Studio as an original net animation, part of a burgeoning wave of short-form digital storytelling that gained traction in the late 2010s. The project emerged from a desire to experiment with episodic, bite-sized narratives that could leverage the immediate accessibility of online streaming platforms to reach global audiences.
The visual identity of the series was developed to prioritize a soft, whimsical aesthetic that complements the lighthearted premise of the transformation genre. The production team focused on fluid character expressions and a minimalist color palette, an artistic choice intended to keep the viewer’s focus on the protagonist’s evolving perspective rather than complex background details. Upon release, the series was noted by critics for its understated charm and efficient pacing, establishing a recognizable style for the studio within the crowded landscape of contemporary digital animation.
