Where it came from
Ringo no Mori no Koneko-tachi, or The Kittens in the Apple Forest, is a whimsical animated short film produced by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK. Released in the 1980s, the production was crafted as part of the studio's commitment to creating high-quality, gentle children's programming that emphasized moral storytelling and soft, artistic aesthetics.
The film is defined by its charming, hand-drawn animation style, which reflects the classic NHK aesthetic of the era—prioritizing fluid, expressive character designs over complex special effects. It was received as a nostalgic piece of television history, valued primarily for its calm tone and the endearing portrayal of its kitten protagonists, often serving as a hallmark of the studio's family-oriented animation legacy.
